Last week our Novice and Junior teams completed their seasons at the 2020 Skate Canada Synchronized Skating Championships in Calgary, Alberta. Both teams had strong showings competing against the top teams from across the country.
The Junior team, made up of 20 skaters ages 13 to 19 had to overcome an injury in the short program when one skater collided with another during the twizzle element and required stitches. While these weren’t the performances they had been training so hard for, we are proud of their top 5 finish in a very competitive event.
The Novice team, made up of 19 skaters ages 11 to 15, had two of their seasons bests performances. After the first skate they found themselves in the lead. With confidence and focus, they were able to to replicate this again in the second skate earning them the gold medal and title of 2020 Novice National Champions of Canada. We are so proud of this team for this feat, as it is the first time in 12 years that a team from Ontario has taken home the Gold medal in the Novice category.
Overall our skaters enjoyed their trip to Alberta immensely. With a day trip to beautiful Lake Louise and being able to experience the world class facility at Canada Olympic Park, the memories created will surely last a lifetime.
