This past weekend the Gold Ice synchronized skating teams kicked off their competition season with a bang. Traveling to Stratford, Ontario to compete in the Bill Phillips Memorial Invitational, Gold Ice had high hopes for a successful weekend and their hard work paid off with 3 medals and a personal best score! Coached by Jessica Brown, Andrea Clement, and Ashley Greenhalgh, Gold Ice is excited for what looks to be another successful season!
The Beginner 2 team (ages 6-11), most of whom were competing in their very first synchronized skating competition ever, had a flawless skate to win the gold medal (to huge screams and smiles!)
Gold Ice Elementary (ages 9-14) bounced back after a few fumbles in their first skate to finish second overall, just narrowly missing out on the gold medal. Their speedy race car number caught the eye of many in attendance and they are excited to continue to improve on their high scores.
The Novice team (ages 11-17) had two solid skates to win the bronze medal in a very competitive category. Our “looney” skaters are working hard towards a strong finish at the Skate Canada Synchronized Skating National Championships in Vancouver this February.
Finally, Gold Ice Open was awarded top scores (76.76) for their “80’s Aerobics Instructors” inspired program. This was an exhibition skate for the Open team and they are looking forward to their first competition at Winterfest.
The Beginner 2 and Elementary teams also participated in the 2013 SCBC Christmas Show this past weekend and had a huge reception from the crowd. Gold Ice also had several skaters featured in solo and group numbers throughout the show – way to go!
Next up for Gold Ice is the 2014 Winterfest Synchronized Skating Competition at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga – January 10-12, 2014.
