Season Bests in Ottawa

Posted: Mar 7, 2018

This past weekend 5 Gold Ice teams headed to our nation’s capital to finish off their season at the 2018 SynchroSkate competition. Teams from several provinces were in attendance including Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and Alberta! It was a great opportunity for our younger skaters to compete against some new teams, tour the Ottawa area, and enjoy a tasty Beavertail as a post-competition reward!

It was the second competition of the season for our Beginner 2 team and they had their sights set on improving on their Silver ribbon finish from Synchro Capers. With a peppy performance (and some loud cheers from their Gold Ice older sisters) they had smiles on their faces as they came off the ice and were rewarded with a Gold ribbon!

The Pre-Juvenile category has proven to be one of the more competitive categories this year. Gold Ice has earned medals at 2 out of 3 competitions so far this season and set a goal of having two personal best skates and earning a spot on the podium. Up against some fierce competition from the Quebec teams, our girls put out two fantastic skates earning huge personal best scores and the gold medal overall! This team surpassed all expectations and has a bright future ahead of them.

Our Juvenile team came into this competition undefeated and were looking to make this a perfect season. Up against some very strong teams from Quebec, our skaters were excited to put out a strong performance. With two clean skates they were able to once again earn a gold medal completing their perfect season. Not only did this team win 5 gold medals this season, they also skated clean in all 10 competition skates. This is a feat we are incredibly proud of them for. We will miss this Cats vs Mice program dearly!

Gold Ice Pre-Novice have been hard at work improving their Detective themed program since Regionals. After the first skate the team found themselves sitting in second place in a tight field. Despite two falls in their second skate, they were able to maintain position and win the Silver medal overall. A huge accomplishment for a brand new Pre-Novice team and we couldn’t be more proud.

Finally it was the Adult 3 team’s turn to take to the ice. With two energetic performances of their Diva’s inspired program, they enjoyed every minute of being out on competition ice one last time. Finishing in 9th place overall, this team enjoyed a weekend of fun and celebration as the season wrapped up.

Our youth teams had the opportunity to visit Downtown Ottawa, take in the beautiful Parliament buildings, shop, and enjoyed a Beavertail (or two). It was a very fun weekend to finish up the season and we look forward to making a return trip next year!

We will now enjoy a few weeks off before getting back on the ice to begin the 2018-2019 season with our Skills Sessions (open to all skaters with or without previous synchronized skating experience) and Tryouts at the start of next month.
