Successful weekend for Gold Ice at Ontario Regionals!

Posted: Feb 12, 2013

While a snow-storm threatened travel plans to Newmarket Ontario for the 2013 Ontario Regional Synchronized Skating Championships, Gold Ice managed to arrive safely and had an extremely successful weekend!

As always, the stands were packed with Gold Ice fans and all of our teams enjoyed loud cheers of support throughout the weekend.

The Elementary team achieved personal best scores with two clean skates and won the bronze medal, making them the third best team in Ontario! With many skaters brand new to synchronized skating, this team continues to amaze us with their dedication and instant love for the sport. Gold Ice is extremely proud of how far our Elementary team has come and are looking forward to continued success throughout the season!

The Intermediate team has been hard at work preparing for their second Regionals. This hard work paid off with two of their best skates this season and a personal best total of 79.03 points earning them the bronze medal overall!

Continuing with their successful season, the Open team also posted a personal best score of 73.80 points in their second skate to take the gold medal and were crowned Ontario Champions for the second year in a row. With their sights set on nationals, this team is working hard to continue their success.

Regionals marked the first competition of the season for the Gold Ice Adult 3 team. With two solid skates they finished in 9th place overall. Looking forward to Synchro Capers next weekend this team is hard at work to make improvements to their program in order to move up in the standings.

The highlight of the weekend by far came from two outstanding skates from our Novice team. Determined to improve on previous competitions, these 17 girls are the definition of hard work. On Friday they skated flawlessly and gained 9 points on the previous personal best score. Sitting in fourth place, they weren’t stopping there. Saturdays skate was again solid and they added another 5 points to their recent PB! Gaining 17 points in total from their Winterfest score, the Gold Ice Novice team rocketed up in the standings to finish with the silver medal. The Gold Ice family could not be prouder of this first year novice team. They are excited to be heading to Calgary for their first national championships in two weeks!

February is a busy month for Gold Ice. Next weekend all 6 teams will be competing at Synchro Capers in Oakville (it’s the first competition of the season for our Beginner 2 team!) and the Novice, Intermediate, and Open teams are heading to Calgary, Alberta February 21 – 23 for the Skate Canada Synchronized Skating Championships.
