2018 Synchro Capers Recap

Posted: Jan 31, 2018

What a weekend for our teams! 6 Gold Ice teams competed at the 2018 Synchro Capers competition this past Saturday and Sunday at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex in Oakville.  It was a weekend of triumphs and personal bests.

On Saturday the Juvenile category started off the competition. With another strong skate our Cats and Mice found themselves sitting in the lead heading into the Gold Final. A high energy performance landed them once again on top of the podium with a gold medal and a personal best score.

The Pre-Novice team had their best skate of the season, were rewarded with a huge personal best score and were second overall heading into the Gold Final. Unfortunately they faced many challenges in their second skate and finished the competition in 7th place. We are proud of this team for their determination and perseverance and know they will be back stronger than ever at Ontario Regionals.

Synchro Capers marked the very first competition for the Beginner 2 team. 15 excited little fishies couldn’t contain their enthusiasm and passion for this sport. They took to the ice with confidence and flair. Cheered on by their older Gold Ice sisters, they were awarded with a silver ribbon for their strong performance.

Our Novice team came into this weekend with big goals of hitting a personal best score, and standing on top of the podium. It is an incredibly competitive and close category  this year and our 17 skaters have been working very hard to improve their animated Frankenstein program. Two confident and solid skates earned them personal best scores and a gold medal.

The Junior team was the only team competing in this category and they were excited to have another opportunity to perform their programs in front of an audience and judging panel. They are already hard at work in preparation for Ontario Regionals and the Skate Canada Synchronized Skating Championships next month.

Sunday our  Pre-Juvenile team was up bright and early for their turn to compete. While their first skate wasn’t perfect they found themselves sitting in 4th place in a very close and exciting race. They rose to the occasion on the second skate with a fantastic performance of their Genie program. Overall they were rewarded with a bronze medal.

Thank you to all of the volunteers and officials who made the event such a success! We always enjoy performing in such a beautiful rink.

Next up for our teams is Ontario Regionals in Komoka, Ontario February 9th – 11th. 8 Gold Ice teams will be competing: Pre-Juvenile, Juvenile, Pre-Novice, Novice, Junior, Open, Adult 1 and Adult 2.
