The 2015-2016 season kicks off!

Posted: Nov 20, 2015

This past Saturday, all 7 of our Gold Ice teams debuted their programs for the first time to an energetic and excited crowd. Gold Ice fans you were loud and proud!

Gold Ice Elementary got the party started with their “party girls” themed program. Full of personality and speed, they had the audience dancing from start to finish.

Next to hit the ice was the Gold Ice Adult 3 team featuring several SCBC coaches including our very own Coach Andrea and Jessica. It was time to pop the champagne as they skated their “New Years Eve” program for the first time in front of an audience.

This year’s Beginner 2 team is the youngest Beginner 2 team in Gold Ice history. They have been working very hard to finish their program in time for the Gala and were very excited to wear their gorgeous dresses for the very first time. It turns out these little “celebrities” are natural born performers and had a very strong and sassy skate!

The 2015 Ontario Regional Champions were very eager to show off their powerful and audience pleasing “Rock” program. It is evident that this program is going to be a fan-favourite among our Gold Ice dads. The Juvenile team totally rocked the ice to close off the first have of the Gala.

Gold Ice is very excited to welcome the Eclipse Adult 1 team into our family this year. Skating to a peppy Dance Mix 95 number, these skaters showed off superior skills and very intricate choreography. It’s going to be a great season!

Next up was Gold Ice Novice. These 17 skaters were ready to walk down the aisle and debut their “Wedding” themed program. Power and speed were the focus of their spring and summer training sessions and it showed! They flew across the ice from start to finish.

It’s all about attitude for the Open team this season and they have decided to sass things up a little with a “Bad Girls” themed program. Showing off their power and speed, the program was extremely well received. This team has high goals for 2015-2016 and we cannot wait to see the program develop over the course of the season!

But wait…. there was one more performance of the evening. Several Gold Ice dads and fans decided to give synchronized skating a try this year and formed a Senior Mens Elite Precision Synchronized Skating Team going by the name of “Tight Ice.” Our own Gold Ice Beginner 2 team awarded Tight Ice with their marks for Technical Difficulty and Artistic Impression (after being bribed with candy) and determined that Tight Ice were the winners of the gold medal. We will let the pictures tell the story of their “performance…”

Special thank you to our guest teams Momentum Novice and Meraki Junior. It was a pleasure seeing your programs for the first time and we look forward to cheering you on this season! Also thank you to our guest skaters from the SCBC Academy programs as well as Senior Ice Dancers Nicole Orford and Asher Hill for your performances. There is so much talent in this country!

Our sincere gratitude goes out to all of the volunteers who helped ensure the Gala was a success. Thank you to our team managers and SCBC board members who have spent many hours of preparation for this evening. We are so lucky to have you! And of course thank you to our resident Gold Ice photographer Wendy Dixon. Thank you for the lasting memories of a fantastic evening!

Looking forward to another great season! #GoldIceRocks
